HOME MATCH V ROTHES FC – SATURDAY 5 DECEMBER 2020

HAPPY ST. ANDREWS DAY

Well….. last Saturdays visit to Fort William was a bit of a disappointment to say the least – especially finding out from the referee that the game was postponed, due to a waterlogged pitch, at 2.50pm – ten minutes before kick off.

Anyway, this Saturday we welcome Rothes FC to our first home game at Seafield Park since March 7 2020 in the Breedon Scottish Highland League, kick off is at 3pm.

There was always good rivalry from a usually vocal Rothes support who will be missed, as unfortunately SFA and Highland League CoVid Pandemic guidelines does not allow away team supporters.

CORONAVIRUS – MARCH 25, 2020

photo shows Seafield Park at 8am on the morning of our first home Highland League match in 2009 ©JSG

Following the Highland League’s decision to conclude the 2019/2020 league after a meeting with all the clubs on the 21 March 2020, the management committee of Strathspey Thistle Football Club would like to thank all players, management – Gordon, Tommy and Robbie, and our supporters and very generous sponsors – both for match day hospitality together with our main sponsors for their commitment to the club – we very much appreciate it.  We finished in thirteenth place (with a few games in hand by the way…!!) – our highest placing since we entered the league in 2009. We congratulate the winners Brora Rangers FC on a well deserved championship.

As the country comes to terms with isolations and restrictions of movement we have decided to suspend our weekly lottery – and aptly, our last draw on Sunday 22 March resulted in NHS worker Mr Tony Powell from Newtonmore winning the accumulated £3600 prize.

The lottery will restart when things return to a more normal environment and if anyone has bought tickets for this week’s draw they will be valid for the first draw on resumption – those who have paid in advance will have the period covered extended appropriately. Anyone paying by standing order will also be catered for..

As you can all imagine, the club will find the weeks ahead challenging, as will every “small” club in the UK, so the difficult tasks are to get in place all the ingredients necessary for another successful season…hopefully starting at the usual time late July/early August.

We will try to keep you all up to date, through our Twitter and Facebook pages, as well as this website -which we will try to keep updating with as much information for next season as we can – with regards fixtures, players, merchandise, corporate days, sponsorships etc etc.

PLEASE FOLLOW GOVERNMENT ADVICE ON SELF-ISOLATION, SOCIAL DISTANCING AND HYGIENE, AND ABIDE BY THE RESTRICTIONS ON MOVEMENTS OUTSIDE YOUR HOME AND ON TRAVEL. PLEASE, ALSO ADHERE TO ISSUED GUIDELINES IF YOU ARE HELPING VULNERABLE PEOPLE OR THOSE IN NEED OF FOOD DELIVERY. WE ARE VERY LUCKY TO LIVE IN A COUNTRY WITH PEOPLE WHO ARE PREPARED TO PUT THEIR, AND THEIR FAMILIES HEALTH AT RISK FOR OTHERS – – BY TAKING SUCH MEASURES WE CAN ALL PLAY OUR PART IN PREVENTING THE SPREAD OF THE VIRUS

We’ll be back as soon as is possible…Stay safe, as they say!

Match Report – v Rothes 01/02/2020

After an excellent game of football and very evenly fought, McHardy’s last minute goal for Rothes proved to be the winner. The Jags had twice taken the lead – in 75 minutes by Liam Taylor and after 83 minutes by Andrew Hardwick, but after both goals Rothes had quickly equalised. The win keeps Rothes in fourth place in the league and we turn our attention to next Saturday and the visit of league leaders Brora Rangers.
